Volunteer Spotlight: Angamuthu Natarajan
Nadine: What is your day job?
Angamuthu: I work for an IT organization as Software Quality Assurance Test lead, and I really enjoy my job and role.
N: How did you get involved with FIN? How long have you been a volunteer?
A: I was excited to get to know the local community when I moved to Canada, in 2018, and I started looking for opportunities to get to know people. That’s how I started volunteering with different events. I came across FIN through a social media post, and I got involved with FIN.
N: What is your favourite FIN Atlantic International Film Festival memory?
A: Definitely, I would say, getting to know the different types of movies that FIN offers—documentaries, shorts, features, special presentations. And getting to know new people, that makes happy memories.
N: What part of the film festival would you recommend to a first-time festival goer?
A: It would depend on their interests and tastes, but I would recommend that they go to movies! They should pick the best movie, based on their interests, and go for it.
For volunteering, being Front of House or Theatre Manager is really interesting.
The other good thing here is that people who are involved very closely in the movie—like the director or producer—they come and give the intro and, there are some, they do a question and answer at the end, so these are really good to understand more about the movie.
N: What do you most look forward to every year at FIN?
A: Definitely I want to be a volunteer again, and with more of in-person events, maybe somewhere else than in the theatre. Maybe FIN Outdoor.
N: What is your favourite film?
A: Last year I watched a few films, using the festival pass, and I streamed some films online. One I liked was a movie called LISTEN, based on a family’s struggle to protect their special needs child from the government. And there was FLEE, an animated movie; I liked the way they carried the picture with the animation. It was kind of my random pick, but it worked out well!
N: What is your favourite movie snack?
A: Of course, popcorn! It’s what comes immediately to mind when we talk about movies—movies and popcorn go together!
