AIFF DEIA Statement

At the Atlantic International Film Festival, we believe that storytelling is a powerful force for connection, empathy, and change. As a cultural institution rooted in Atlantic Canada with a global reach, we are committed to fostering a film industry—and a festival environment—that is diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible to all.

We recognize that systemic barriers exist within the arts, film, and media sectors. We are actively working to dismantle these barriers by creating space for underrepresented voices, amplifying stories that reflect the full spectrum of human experience, and ensuring that everyone—regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, ability, socioeconomic status, or background—feels seen, valued, and heard.

Our commitment to DEIA is woven into every aspect of our work, including:

  • Programming that prioritizes authentic and diverse storytelling from Atlantic Canada and beyond.

  • Hiring and leadership practices that strive for equity and representation.

  • Partnerships that uplift marginalized creators and communities.

  • Accessibility initiatives that make our festival spaces and content inclusive for all attendees and participants.

We understand that this work is ongoing and evolving. We are committed to listening, learning, and growing in collaboration with our community. Through accountability and action, we will continue to build a festival that not only reflects the diversity of the world around us, but also actively contributes to a more just and inclusive film industry.
