Director Bio:
Naomi Mark is a multi-hyphenate storyteller who works across genres in both documentary and scripted film and television. Her award-winning films have been commissioned by CBC and Knowledge Network and have screened in festivals around the world.
Varied in genre, Naomi’s films range from emotive character-driven documentaries that explore family bonds and the nature of grief to quirky comedies that explore serious environmental issues. Some of Naomi’s films include Underdog (2016 Short of the Week), The Arctics (winner of the 2021 Yorkton Film Festival’s Golden Sheaf Multicultural Award) and the feature length documentary How To Bee ( winner of the 2019 RIIFF Marilyn Mason Award). Naomi is an alumna of Women in the Director’s Chair, Telefilm Talent-to-Watch, GEMS Emerging TV Producer Program and Hot Docs Accelerator.
Marty O’Brien is a Producer/Director/Cinematographer based in Whitehorse, Yukon. In 2018, his award winning debut film; Camera Trap, screened at Hot Docs as well as 15 international film festivals. His follow up film, The Arctics, won the multicultural award at Yorkton Film Festival in 2021 and was nominated for Best Direction. In 2026, Marty produced his first scripted feature film, From Me To You, which wrapped production in the summer after being awarded Telefilm’s Talent To Watch program in 2025. Marty constantly challenges himself, seeking new and dynamic ways to tell immersive and unique stories.
Marty and Naomi co-founded Midnight Light, a Whitehorse based production company.

Logline:
In remote Subarctic Yukon, a gold-mining family unearths a pre-historic parasite hibernating in the permafrost.
Synopsis:
SAM MCQUESTEN returns to his northern hometown of Dawson City to reconnect with his estranged family after a stint in rehab. Keen to redeem himself as a capable father Sam travels out to the family’s remote placer mine with his teenage daughter CAYLEY to help reopen for the season. Led by his relentless father DON, the remote stretch of land has been trawled by the family for generations with dwindling returns. SAM wants to sell his part of the claim, but must first navigate his father's obsession with finding the mother-load.
