Recording Device Policy

The Atlantic International Film Festival (AIFF) is committed to creating a safe, respectful and comfortable environment for audiences, filmmakers, artists, industry professionals, volunteers and staff.

To protect the privacy and consent of individuals attending festival events, and to safeguard films and other festival content from unauthorized recording, AIFF prohibits the use of smart glasses and other wearable devices capable of recording, photographing, livestreaming or otherwise capturing audio or visual content at festival events.

This policy applies to all AIFF festival screenings, events, venues, receptions, industry activities, workshops, talks, panels and other official festival programming.

It applies to all attendees, including ticket holders, passholders, filmmakers, industry professionals, guests, volunteers, staff, media and sponsors.

  • Unless expressly authorized by AIFF, attendees may not wear or use glasses, eyewear or other wearable devices that contain or may contain:

    • cameras or video-recording capabilities;

    • audio-recording capabilities;

    • livestreaming capabilities;

    • image or video capture capabilities;

    • artificial intelligence features that can record, store, transmit or analyze audio or visual content; or

    • similar technology that could reasonably enable the recording or transmission of festival content or individuals without their knowledge or consent.

    This includes, but is not limited to, Meta smart glasses and similar camera-enabled smart eyewear.

    The policy applies regardless of whether the recording function is actively being used. Where a device is capable of recording, AIFF may require that it be removed or securely stored for the duration of a screening or event.

  • Camera-enabled wearable devices are strictly prohibited during film screenings unless specifically authorized by AIFF.

    Attendees may be asked to remove such devices before entering a screening room or to store them securely for the duration of the screening.

    This restriction is intended to protect filmmakers, distributors and rights holders from unauthorized recording, photography, livestreaming or other capture of films and festival content.

  • AIFF reserves the right to refuse entry to, or remove from an event, any individual who does not comply with this policy.

  • AIFF recognizes that wearable technology may serve legitimate accessibility, communication or other personal needs.

    Attendees who require a camera-enabled or smart wearable device for accessibility or other essential purposes are encouraged to contact AIFF in advance so that reasonable accommodations can be explored.

    AIFF will make reasonable efforts to accommodate legitimate accessibility needs while protecting the privacy of attendees and the rights of filmmakers and content creators.
