Logline:

When a seemingly wholesome Canadian couple and their four children con their way into an acquaintance’s home while the New Zealand family is away, they systematically take over their house, friends, identity and entire life—until the rightful family is replaced as if they never existed.

Synopsis:

When a charming Canadian father, his smiling wife and their four blond children con their way into staying at an acquaintance’s New Zealand home while the owners are away, they appear to be the perfect guests—grateful, helpful and relentlessly polite.

But the visitors soon begin treating the house, car and belongings as their own. They charm the neighbors, infiltrate the family’s friendships, adopt their routines and traditions, and quietly assume their place within the community. By the time the New Zealand family realizes what is happening, the Canadians have convinced everyone that they belong there—and that the rightful owners are unstable intruders.

Every attempt to reclaim their lives only strengthens the Canadians’ story. As the New Zealand wife fights to expose them, she discovers other families in other countries who have vanished in the same way.

Darkly comic and deeply unsettling, Bad Canadian is a psychological thriller about a family that doesn’t steal money. They steal identities, histories and entire lives—then replace their victims as if they never existed.
