AIFF Brand Returns To Its Roots

& SNEAK PEEK AT 3 REGIONAL WORLD PREMIERES COMING TO AIFF

Returning to its roots, the Atlantic International Film Festival (AIFF) is pleased to unveil a new logo and brand for the organization. The rebrand focuses on the legacy name of Atlantic International Film Festival, accompanied by the initials AIFF.

“The FIN era served its purpose in bringing all the festival’s programs under one recognizable umbrella, and now it is time to carry that momentum forward into the future under a familiar well-loved name and exciting new branding,” says Martha Cooley, Executive Director of AIFF. “Following suit with most other Canadian international film festival naming conventions, the primary goal of the Atlantic International Film Festival name and brand is to clearly and proudly say who we are, what we do and where we are from.”

AIFF will continue to unify all programs under one cohesive brand, including: AIFF Partners, AIFF Kids, AIFF Outdoor and AIFF Online.

In anticipation of the official program launch of the 2023 Atlantic International Film Festival next month, the festival programming team is excited to announce three Atlantic Canadian feature length films making their World Premieres at the event, September 14-21.

Still from Adrian Willis’ A QUIET GIRL.

In the largest comedy feature ever out of PEI, AIFF alumni director Jeremy Larter’s WHO’S YER FATHER? sees a bumbling private eye who is hired to investigate black market lobster sales. CELESTIAL QUEER: THE LIFE, WORK AND WONDER OF JAMES MACSWAIN, a Nova Scotian documentary, from directors Sue Johnson and Eryn Foster, is an eclectic portrayal of Maritime queer multimedia artist and activist Jim MacSwain. Finally, director Adrian Wills’ documentary, A QUIET GIRL offers the personal journey of the filmmaker as he unravels the story behind his adoption in Newfoundland and his subsequent quest for truth and identity.

The 2023 edition of AIFF will present a refreshed line-up of film streams; including Galas - special showcases of highly anticipated titles from near and far, World Cinema - a diverse selection of Canadian and international narrative features, Narrative New Waves - spotlighting exciting emerging filmmakers from Canada and around the globe, Late Night Visions - weird, wild and boundary-pushing works for fans, Documentary - captivating non-fiction, Short Films - see the best and brightest in new short-form storytelling, Classics/Restored - classics ready to be (re) discovered on the big screen, and In Focus - retrospective of a filmmaker or icon.

About AIFF

The Atlantic International Film Festival (AIFF) is an eight-day celebration of film and media from around the world, turning Halifax into an international destination for movie-lovers and filmmakers alike. Discover a variety of regional, national, and international films that explore all corners of life, culture, entertainment, and the global human experience. All film selections are chosen with our audience in mind and our special events are designed to bring our community together. A not-for-profit organization, AIFF began as a tiny, grassroots operation in St. John’s, Newfoundland in 1981, relocating to Halifax the following year. Over four decades later, the Atlantic International Film Festival has evolved into one of Canada’s premier film festivals and a champion of Atlantic Canadian filmmakers. Whether for unabashed film-lovers, industry folks, or curious onlookers, AIFF is the place to engage and connect through the love of movies. AIFF is now a year-round celebration of film, growing beyond our cornerstone event in September to include AIFF Partners, AIFF Kids, and AIFF Outdoor. The 43rd annual Atlantic International Film Festival will take place this September 14 - 21, 2023.
