AIFF Team Highlights Of The Year
Moments That Moved Us In 2025
As we look back on this year’s festival, our team gathered to reflect on the moments that defined AIFF 2025. Some were big and celebratory. Some were quiet and unexpected. All of them reminded us why stories matter, why community matters, and why this festival continues to grow with meaning every year.
1. Maritime Sunshine and Unforgettable Gatherings
One of the year’s standout moments took place at Saraguay House, where delegates gathered on the dock under warm September sun as boats drifted by. Watching filmmakers and industry partners connect so naturally captured the true spirit of Maritime hospitality that makes AIFF Partners beloved.
The Little Lorraine panel was another unforgettable highlight, filling the cinema with laughter as a record breaking panel shared heartfelt behind the scenes stories from Cape Breton.
And during the Orbital Studios session, hearing creators and tech leaders discuss the future of film, AI, and storytelling was both inspiring and eye opening, showing how innovation and artistry can move forward together.
2. A Sunset Pause During A Busy Festival
For Rachelle, our Operations Manager, one highlight came on the Stewart McKelvey rooftop patio during the Nordic Reception teardown. After days of non-stop work from early morning until late evening, the sun was setting, music was playing, and everyone paused to laugh, take photos, and breathe. It was the halfway point of the festival, and even though more big events were ahead, this brief moment of joy and connection became one of the year’s most meaningful memories.
3. A Lifelong Dream Come True
Tori described finally visiting the Cineplex projection booth as a dream fulfilled. Seeing the tiny silhouettes of a fully packed audience from above felt cinematic and strangely romantic. A goofy photo captured the moment perfectly. A reminder of how magical the behind the scenes parts of filmmaking can be.
4. Stories and Reactions We Shared
Some of the year’s most memorable moments came from the connections shared among filmmakers and audiences. Filmmakers from across the region and country gathered for impromptu drinks, conversations sparked by favourite film moments, while other celebrations occurred at intimate warm gatherings over beautiful waterfront meals.
In the cinemas, unforgettable reactions filled the rooms. Kids giggled during the animated short YUCK on the Kids Tour, the Lilith Fair documentary deeply moved audiences, and the Shorts Gala screening of The Muse carried an energy that lingered long after the credits rolled. These shared responses reminded us why cinema is best experienced together, through collective laughter, emotion, and the magic of a room full of people enjoying in the same story.
5. The Return Of Clappy
For many of us, seeing Clappy return to the festival was one of the most heartwarming highlights. Audiences embraced Clappy with nostalgia and joy, from kids taking photos to adults proudly wearing Clappy hats and mugs. Watching people smile, purchase the merch, and celebrate this beloved mascot reminded us how powerful a shared symbol can be.
6. Celebrating A Local Classic
The Parsley Days screening also stood out thanks to director Andrea Dorfman’s thoughtful display of original props and memorabilia outside the theatre. This personal touch added warmth and history to the experience and created a meaningful connection with the audience.
7. Capturing The Spirit of AIFF Through Team Portraits
A favourite moment for many was the day AIFF staff photos were taken. Seeing everyone dressed up, relaxed, and celebrating the end of the festival together turned a simple photo session into a joyful memory. It perfectly captured the energy of a team who worked hard and supported one another throughout a full, unforgettable season.
A Year To Remember
Each of these moments, big, small, emotional, funny, or surprising, helped shape the story of AIFF 2025. Thank you to everyone who joined us, supported us, and made this year unforgettable. We can’t wait to share more memories with you in 2026.
