Logline:
A Viking castaway in pursuit of a band of sadistic cannibals who massacred his family is marooned on a remote island where he meets a Mi’kmaq woman whose village has suffered the same fate.
Synopsis:
A Viking castaway drags himself from the churning waters onto an alien coastline, red sand and cliffs bordered by a dense, green, forests. Wulf, 45, looks down at a vicious wound in his side leaking blood onto the sand… A distant horn call carries over the water, heralding unseen pursuers. He fled from a fight, a mortal sin in his world. Because of his cowardice, his wife and daughter were slaughtered. He is a man with no home, fleeing his past, his shame, and his haunting memories.
A Mi’kmaq woman, Po’K, 35, finds Wulf bleeding and exhausted, near death. She takes him to a ruined village… The scattered remains of her people litter the ground, a child’s toy, a husband’s-blood stained shirt, a mother’s trampled basket... Po’K mends Wulf’s wound, bringing him back from the brink of death. She sees Wulf is a broken man, his distant, melancholy stare hints at a familiar, hidden, pain. She plans to use him as an instrument of her revenge, an avatar for her retribution. She will pour all her rage into him and unleash him upon her enemies.
Across the island, under the night sky, fires illuminate a blood-stained stone alter surrounded by gruesome decorations. Human skins stretched over wooden crosses, sun bleached skulls, limbs with teeth marks, and shallow pits caging sacrificial victims. A black robed preacher, The Gothi, screams satanic verse into the night as a hulking Viking, The Haust, drags a victim from the pits to the stone alter to fulfill their craven hunger for human flesh. Having looked into the abyss at the edge of the mind, they found the eyes of madness staring back… Now, they’re agents of chaos.
Wulf and Po’K confront the sadistic cannibals… For redemption, for revenge… A brutal confrontation, Wulf kills the Haust but is mortally wounded in the brutal fight. Po’K stabs the Gothi, then pushes him into a blazing fire.
In the final scene, Po’K helps Wulf into a small boat, his life leaking from numerous wounds, he dies silently. Po’K sets the canoe adrift, lighting it on fire. The crackling red flames burning on the night blue water under a star filled sky.
