Logline:
As a child, Paige Stewart’s favourite storybooks were about an incorrigible, invisible girl named “Plain Sight”. But years have passed with no new title in the book series, and their elderly author has become reclusive. Tonight, Paige will arrive at that author’s front door, with her own idea for bringing “Plain Sight” back to life... or there’ll be hell to pay.
Synopsis:
PAIGE STEWART (18) is perky, positive and deranged. She believes-- with all her heart—that she’s destined to become a world-famous writer, and that this will mean escape from her deadend town. Strangely, Paige’s favourite author has just moved to this very same dead-end town. ALICE O’BRIEN (70) is the best-selling author of a series of children’s books which star a devilish and invisible little girl named “Plain Sight.” O’Brien has grown weary of the “Plain Sight” character, and of the public eye, and so O’Brien has moved to the middle of nowhere, wanting only to be left alone. But Paige believes that O’Brien’s arrival must be taken as some kind of sign.
Because for a while now, Paige has been writing a “Plain Sight” story of her very, very own—in order to resurrect the character. And with every sentence that Paige types, her fanfic seems to be coming magically true. First her brand new story brought her a boyfriend-- tall, dark and dangerous DOUGLAS LANGAN (19), who would do anything for her. Then, when Paige’s small-town doubters said that she had no writing talent, her brand new story made them eat their words. Fatally. And now—best of all—that same story is pointing Paige toward Alice O’Brien’s hidden cottage in the lonely woods.
Because Paige doesn’t know how to finish the resurrection of Plain Sight. Paige needs to collaborate with the character’s original author... whether Alice O’Brien likes it or not. Tonight, Paige and her boyfriend Douglas pay Alice O’Brien a terrifying visit, and the process of completing this story will become horrifying torture.
But maybe, just maybe, Alice O’Brien is working on a secret deadline of her very own.
You Were Hiding In Plain Sight is an acerbic thriller by an award-winning screenwriter, filled with snarky dialogue, serious suspense, and supernatural twists and turns. It’s Stephen King’s Misery spliced with the Gen Z energy of Bodies, Bodies, Bodies and Talk To Me.
