AIFF Development Manager

FULL-TIME POSITION

The Atlantic International Film Festival is currently accepting applications for the position of DEVELOPMENT MANAGER.

Employment: Full-time, permanent 
Remuneration: Commensurate with experience (see below for a salary range)

Location: AIFF Office, 1888 Brunswick Street, Halifax, NS. This position is not suitable for remote work or work from home.

OVERVIEW

The Development Manager is responsible for fund development activities for the Atlantic International Film Festival including government grants, corporate sponsorships, in-kind community partnerships, donations and membership revenue. Working in collaboration with the Executive Director and other key staff, the Development Manager will coordinate, research, and write government funding applications and final reports; develop and identify value propositions and saleable sponsorship assets; negotiate sponsorship and partnership opportunities with local and national businesses; plan and execute and track sponsorship activation components; and manage and develop donations and membership revenue. This role is responsible for the administrative management of the Development department as well as supervising a contract Sponsorship Coordinator during the lead-up to the main festival.  

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Grant writing and Government Relations

  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, liaise with government partners to ensure the success of AIFF’s funding applications and to determine new funding opportunities

  • Research funding opportunities in support of AIFF’s activities and programs

  • Prepare, write, submit and track AIFF’s government grant proposals and final reports from all levels of government (federal, provincial and municipal)

Corporate Sponsorship and Community Partnerships

  • Work with the Executive Director and the Fund Development Committee to develop a robust corporate sponsorship plan including revenue targets, value propositions, saleable properties and any required partnership material

  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with festival sponsors, and in-kind community partners including through face-to-face meetings and industry connections

  • Implement the sponsorship plan in accordance with the timeline of activities leading up to the Atlantic International Film Festival and other annual events 

  • Collaborate with other staff to ensure sponsorship and community partnership activation as per agreements at all associated events and profile opportunities

  • Maintain the administrative requirements of the role, including internal and external communication, tracking sheets, agreements and reports

  • Manage contract staff in the Development department

Donations and Membership

  • Maintain and develop AIFF’s donor database 

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with individual donors and foundations

  • In collaboration with AIFF’s Executive Director and Board, develop and launch a new membership structure and fundraising plan 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of grant-writing and/or corporate sponsorship/fundraising experience, preferably in a non-profit context

  • Strong writing skills and ability to write for clarity, brevity and  tone

  • Experience mentoring and managing contract staff

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including sensitivity and care around working with a range of stakeholders

  • Meticulous organization skills and systems for tracking a large number of connections and communications

  • The ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and maintain a positive attitude under pressure

  • A demonstrated commitment to upholding professional and ethical standards and an articulated understanding of inclusive and anti-racist practices in the arts 

  • Proficient in various computer programs including Excel, Word, Canva and the Google Drive system for file organization

  • A passion for independent film will be considered an asset

Compensation: The salary range is $52k - $55k per annum. In addition to salary, the festival offers health-benefits, paid vacation, cell phone allowance and professional development opportunities.
